'Requiring' anything to do with education is difficult.
When my children don't want to go to school, I remind them of the conditions children worked in before they were given the 'right' to full-time education . . . and that this 'right' can only be upheld if they are forced to take advantage of it (!) . . . otherwise adults might make them go out and earn money instead - which would, ultimately, be to their disadvantage.
All very contradictory and, in many ways, unsatisfactory.
If I ruled the education system . . . I'd lower the school leaving age for secondary school students.
Then, I'd lengthen the time primary aged children spend in school by one hour each day, at the same time as reducing the number of days they spend there to four a week.
It's one of those odd things . . . I live in my little house by the sea and listen to the radio and reckon I know best about more-or-less everything . . . as I keep telling the news-casters, the policiticians and all the experts interviewed there. I shout quite loud - but I'm beginning to suspect they can't hear! Sometimes, I write to my MP . . . but there's always more to say. So, here it is!

Thanks for your comments. I too think the radio continues to be a marvellous medium. I will look at your blog in more detail at another time.

No-one under the age of eleven should be required to go to school.
