LIBRARIES

Libraries should open early . . . close late . . . and serve coffee.

And allow people to chat - loudly :-)

Um, it's a serious point. this country needs places where people who want to talk meaningfully can safely meet and exchange views.

Of course, the Internet is the best thing ever for that but in person would be even better.

Keep shouting :-)

I know a place in Dorchester where they have newspapers, serve excellent coffee and used to have an internet section.

Unfortunately too many people went in and didn’t buy anything, which was ok, but at the time BT were charging £210 per quarter for a business broadband line and the owner couldn’t even use the service for themself !

Hello Bare-Faced-Gardener

If you let me know where the cafe is, I may take a look next time I'm there. It's not far away.

There are some very pleasant cafes in Dorchester but I haven't come across one with newspapers - sounds good.

Ah, there are so many now.

The one I’m talking about is next door to Waitrose. I can’t say I altogether approve of the choice of newspapers but I hear they’ve changed the coffee back to that which they had originally, when it first opened six years ago. It’s possibly the best coffee in Dorset – if you like coffee.
I understand there’s quite a good selection of tea and herbal infusions too.
