BABIES

Breastfeeding is the default option.

Having breastfed both my girls I am a passionate advocate of breastfeeding but it will only work if both mother and baby are committed to it. It took about 6 weeks for my first born and me to reach the stage were the pleasure outweighed the pain. Some mothers can't/wont wait that long.

It's interesting - my babies took to breastfeeding from the moment they were born. And any discomfort I had arose from an overabundance of milk - which was immediately ameliorated when they drank.

In fact, I didn't find a single disadvantage . . . it didn't cost a penny, I had no equipment to sterilise, if I was somewhere where quiet was needed I simply plugged them on.

Maybe it was because it was all so straightforward for me that I don't understand the problems . . . but I certainly don't see why midwives and health visitors make such an issue of it.

There have always been a few people who haven't been able to breast feed . . . but for most women . . .
