ENERGY

I wonder if scientists at Cerne take care not to over fill the kettle.

I think there's more to their carbon footprint than the kettle, but seeing that it is now off line until next year, they'll probably be getting through a fair few cups of coffee.

Hello Ross

I enjoyed your comment.

And it's good to be aware that you drop by from time to time.

I was taken aback to learn the Cerne cooling system alone uses the same energy as a small city.

They have several refrigeration units, eight I think, at intervals round the loop. I didn't catch this properly (on the radio!) but it may be that each one uses this amount of power . . . either way!

And then there's the rest of it . . .

I'm torn as always between approving of research and being excited by it - and being frustrated that energy use like this happens without anyone blinking.

I also have ignoble and selfish feelings that I am belittled by it; that my efforts to be energy efficient pale into pathetic-ness when compared with Cerne scale consumption.
