If I knew how to use accents in these boxes, I would say 'touche' (only with the accent).

It's just that I heard on the radio that eating AND drinking may be allowed in public libraries as a way of attracting more people to use them.

I think pleasant cafes are welcoming adjuncts to libraries - but I don't like the idea of having to brush crumbs off a table before opening a book on it.

Having said that - there aren't enough tables in libraries. There aren't enough chairs.

What do you reckon?

Oh I do so agree!
I often nip into the library in my lunch break and have to perch on an uncomfortable 'dining room' type chair (and not a table in sight!) when what I would like is a lovely squidgy armchair - though we do have a super reference reading room upstairs which has plenty of nice big tables - so handy when one needs to make notes!
As for the eating and drinking . . . well my tongue was quite firmly in my cheek when I wrote that! Last year I visited Barter Books in Alnwick which has a wonderful section where one can sit and read and help oneself to filter coffee and biscuits and leave some money in the Honesty Box. Brilliant!! If ever you are up Northumberland way you must call in - I think you would like it.
Best Wishes

I'm having trouble with feeds to PICTURES JUST PICTURES .

Followers cannot access it at present through their Google Dashboards and it isn't possible to click to the blog through Google Readers either. I'm assuming people using other Readers will be experiencing the same problem.

Please excuse this format message - but I'm cutting and pasting it to 'Followers' and to other people who have left messages on PICTURES JUST PICTURES from time to time.

When I have worked out what to do - I will. Meanwhile, I will continue to post daily.

You can either use this link PICTURES JUST PICTURES or click through from the sidebar of LOOSE AND LEAFY.

Internet Explorer Bookmarks still work

(Members of Blotanical may sympathise if I say 'Isn't it Wonderful!')

I first got cross about tables when I wanted information on the constuction of Tudor floors.

The only books where I might have found such obscure information were large architectural ones or those with big, glossy illustrations.

They were so heavy, it would have been awkward to carry one home, let alone several, so I needed to chose carefully.

There were no tables so the only way I could sort through them was to put them on the floor and kneel.

Daft.

Back to eating and drinking - the Alnwick bookshop sounds lovely.

On the other hand, I wouldn't want to buy a book that someone had already dropped crumbs into.
