MONEY

Sometimes there is comfort in knowing one is already poor.

I suppose it depends on how poor.

I'm saying this in connection with the current financial crises in Europe and America.

I would never say someone who has no home / food / clothes etc. is fortunate. Nor would be anyone living where there is no medicine or where education is lacking.

I, however, am not rich but I remain placid. I will not loose my job because I don't have one. I will not lose my home because I don't have a mortgage and I rent from a housing association.

My life is limited. Lack of funds can be worrying and frustrating. But it is not without richness.

Inflation, in my case, would be the thing to fear.

And, if things got really bad and the state withdrew support, it might be life threatening.

(I receive the Disabled Living Allowance, Income Support and Housing Benefit. If I had to pay for medication, my situation would be desperate.)

Meanwhile - I can imagine there must be terror in owning riches and having them suddenly swept away.
